Blu Ray vs DVD – If Your Video Requires the Best Quality Available, Bison Disc is for You!

The Blu-ray Disc is a digital optical disc storage format, capable of storing high-definition video content with a resolution of 1080p (1920×1080 pixels). While a Blu-ray disc is the same size as a standard DVD, the difference in quality between it and its progenitor, which has a maximum resolution of 480i (720×480 pixels), is similar to the difference between the picture on a normal TV set and what you can now see on the newer, Hi-Definition sets and screens.

Blu-ray was first developed in 2000, by the Blu-ray Disc Association, a group of companies from the consumer electronics, computer hardware, and motion picture industries. In 2006, the Sony Corporation officially released the first Blu-ray disc player to the American public. Since then, Blu-ray has been the industry standard for feature films and many video game formats.

Blu-ray refers to the blue or violet laser that is used to read the disc, which allows information to be stored at a greater density than is possible with the longer-wavelength, red laser used for conventional DVD players. Thus, Blu-ray discs can only be played on a Blu-ray player. But the picture is simply much sharper because a Blu-ray disc can contain more digital information

(25 GB, or gigabytes, per layer) in the same space. Blu-ray discs are also coated with a tough, clear polymer that contributes to their more scratch-resistant and durable shelf life.

If your video project requires the best possible visual quality available, Bison Disc is your company of choice. We can provide you with standard, as well as dual layer discs, which contain 50 gigabytes (GB) apiece – standard for feature length videos. (A 50 GB Blu-ray disc can hold roughly 20 hours of audio and video.)

If you need less than 500 units – and our minimum order is 25 discs – we will duplicate your content on BD-R25 GB media. (Duplicating means copying your content onto already available discs by burning the information onto them from a master disc.)

For more than 500 units, we will replicate your title with AACS Copy Protection on either BD-R25 or BD-R50 discs, depending on which format is most appropriate for your project. (Replicating means that we will manufacture your new discs, from scratch, in our own production facility and then embed your content into them.)

We can also provide you with any quantity of blank, Blu-ray, re-writable (BD-RE) discs with your own custom artwork printed on them. That way, you can personalize the content on each one, but still have your identifying information available for your viewers.

In addition, our in-house designers will imprint all of your customized artwork, or your provided design not only on the Blu-ray discs, themselves, but on all their case wraps, as well, so the vibrant, full color content on the packaging will echo the same amazing, lifelike color your viewers will enjoy when watching your video on their Blu-ray disc players.

And speaking of packaging, Bison Disc offers many choices for your Blu-ray Disc project, including many different case, jacket and sleeve options and designs.
