The city proper has a population of 190,000+, but the greater Salt Lake City metropolitan area has a total population of 1,153,000+, according to a 2014 estimate. At one time, the city was nicknamed Crossroads of the West because both the country’s first continental railroad, and its first transcontinental highway, ran through it. Mining booms and the railroad brought the city its first economic growth, but today Salt Lake is better known for its tourist industry, based on skiing, and its identity as the industrial banking center of the United States.
Salt Lake’s local music scene comprises many different genres, including hip-hop, blues, rock and roll, punk, Deathcore, jazz, jazz-rock, horrorcore, underground metal, and indie. Many clubs and venues present live music, including the Urban Lounge, Kilby Court, The State Room, The Garage, Bar Deluxe, The Depot, and In the Venue. Each summer, for the past 28 years, the city has hosted the Twilight Concert series at Pioneer Park. The Series presents a wide range of outstanding musicians from across the country and around the world. The Utah Arts Festival has been held annually since 1977, with an average attendance of 80,000+. The Festival provides five performance venues for musical acts.
Bison Disc also believes in presenting outstanding music of all types to listeners of all tastes. We do that by duplicating and replicating music CDs, and then packaging them in our collection of Jewel cases, Sleeves, Wallets, Jackets, and Digipaks. So when you can’t get to the club, lounge, or festival, you can still listen to your favorite sounds through the services that we provide for our customers every day of the year.
The Utah Symphony was founded in 1940, known then as the Utah State Symphony Orchestra. Today the Utah Symphony is one of America’s major orchestras, known internationally for its distinctive performances and recording legacy. The orchestra’s 85 full-time, professional musicians perform over 175 concerts each season. It has given performances in many of the world’s most prestigious concert halls. For over three decades the Utah Symphony performed locally at the Mormon Tabernacle in the heart of Salt Lake City. It moved to its current home at Abravanel Hall in 1979.
